Yeah, those were the days.

Back when it was a functioning platform? I miss those days.
As much shit as we gave Kinja, I liked it. Now? Eh... we don’t matter to the overlords.

Now you have to comment I SAVED YOUR POST, THAT MEANS I LIKE IT. As I did here.

Pepperidge Farm remembers.

Hey hey hey there, big fella, “Functioning?” Don’t go crazy now.
Seriously, though, Kinja sucked hard when it first came out, and slowly it morphed into something relatively usable. I still think that it’s editor is pretty stout, and I write all of my big aviation posts directly in Kinja. But since they tried to make a jack of all trades, it is now very much a master of none.

I read that in that old guy’s voice.

It’s a total mess. Clicking on reply, then sorting staff/community, then it never takes you to your actual comment.
Exhausting.
I just found out I was COTD last week. Who knew?

Congratulations! I didn’t know.

I really, really miss being able to see what post/comment was starred/saved in notifications...

You and shop-teacher need to get a room.
![]() 10/16/2019 at 17:13 |

yeah, saw and starred just after. If you want a better class of comment, you have to post more interesting stuff.

I remember. The good old days.
![]() 10/16/2019 at 17:15 |

i remember those.... back then i still saw parts of the f1 races replying to comments

I said it in his voice too :)

I don’t want to know what Front Page people liked. I don’t need that kind of negative reinforcement for my bad takes.

Composing posts..

If he wants a better class of comment, he probably needs to leave this forum.

You get what you pay for after all.

I remember the days when Kinja would include a preview of the post that was liked in the notification.

Tuesdays and Fridays, 12:25 Eastern time
![]() 10/16/2019 at 17:31 |

Neither did I. Happened to be looking for a different post from last week. How would anyone know?
![]() 10/16/2019 at 17:32 |

Yeah, so frustrating, and worse, basically unusable,
on mobile.
![]() 10/16/2019 at 17:34 |

Also, it was not worthy, that’s why I was a bit shocked. Only got 28 stars. I’ve had two posts today that had more.

Kinja gonna kinjad
![]() 10/16/2019 at 17:43 |

It still does but the link’s “target” is no longer the entire cell, it’s just on “your reply” and the date now
![]() 10/16/2019 at 17:51 |

Remember when Kinja worked? Oh I don’t think it has :P
![]() 10/16/2019 at 17:52 |

Touche.
![]() 10/16/2019 at 17:56 |
|
Yeah, you get plenty of that here.
![]() 10/16/2019 at 18:11 |

There was that short time between the other times when it didn’t work.
![]() 10/16/2019 at 18:12 |

Right. And clicking either one of those things takes me to the top of the thread, with no way of knowing which comment inside that thread that I made got saved.
![]() 10/16/2019 at 18:14 |

I noticed that behavior often when using my phone but never on desktop
![]() 10/16/2019 at 18:15 |

TBH, I think this is the one place where Kinja does well. I do all of my 4,000+ word aviation history posts directly inside the Kinja editor. In fact, I switched years ago from Firefox back to Safari because Safari supported autocorrect inside Kinja where FF didn’t. So writing isn’t an issue for me. It’s following comment threads and finding things of mine that people liked.
![]() 10/16/2019 at 18:17 |

I clicked directly on the time stamp of your comment and Kinja took me here:
Had to scroll down to see your newest comment. I suppose it could be a browser issue. I am on somewhat older tech, but others clearly have similar issues.

I browse between firefox and safari on my iphone.. Writing in more reliable in firefox but it has loading problems 60% of the time. Safari layout on the mobile is garbage.
It’s kind of like half the projects on Oppo, not really running right but it’ll do.
![]() 10/16/2019 at 18:25 |

Oh, you mean composing on the phone. Yeah, that’s a shitshow.
![]() 10/16/2019 at 18:27 |

Kinja design decisions are incredibly strange

I always just use desktop mode in chrome on mobile , even if that isnt exactly convenient either.
![]() 10/16/2019 at 19:18 |

I remember when the url of your “liked” comment had the first five or six words of the comment in it. You didn’t even need to click on it.
![]() 10/16/2019 at 19:54 |

I think that still works for me. I’ll have to check when I get home.
Edit: never mind. I understand what you mean now.

“Joe and 34 others liked something you did, didn’t say anything, but you have to click on the link to see what they liked”

Remember when “load more comments” worked?
Remember when you could post a reply and see it published, instead of dancing dots?

You mean that one time?
